Early this morning, around 2:00am CDT, I received a call from the hospital to tell me that Danny went into cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the team acted quickly and performed CPR to revive him. He was immediately transferred back to ICU, intubated, and put on a breathing machine.
I’m here with Danny in his ICU room now. I talked with most of his doctors this morning and they suspect that he aspirated from the secretions produced by the mucositis. This blocked his airway, thereby causing his heart to stop.
The doctors are performing a bunch of diagnostics today to make sure that his lungs, brain, and other organs are not compromised. Overall, the doctors are hopeful that this setback is one from which we’ll recover.
Unfortunately, however, setbacks like this further delay the engraftment process. So, the team is working hard to get Danny back on track as quickly as possible to allow his body to focus on engraftment.
Today, at 6:00pm CDT, I’ll be taking a moment of reflection for Danny. I ask you all to join me at that time with your own prayers, thoughts, and energy. I believe in the power of the collective, so no matter where you are at that time, please take a moment and channel all your love and support to Danny. Encourage your friends and loved ones to join in too. Even if they don’t know Danny… let’s make some healing happen, together.
